Attractions of Ordibehesht (April - May)
1- Crown Imperial Fritillary: In a mountainous habitat in Chahar'mahal & Bakhtiari
province there is a National Natural Monument dedicated to conservation of Crown
Imperial Fritillary. This perennial plant of Liliaceae Family has absolutely dazzling
flowers in this time of year.
2- Saravan Eco-museum: Open museums or eco-museums are collection from architecture
and nature complexes, which show completely real life of rural people. Plan for
making the museum started in Saravan (Gilan province) for first time. These museums
are representatives of the local peoples rural lifestyle in harmony with their surrounding
nature.
3- Varesh forests: The area is part of Bujagh Marine National Park on the coasts
of Caspian Sea. There are high natural attractions there because of occurrence of
3 ecosystems (sea, wetland and forest) all together in this area. Sefid'rud estuary
is type of coastal lagoon and the wetland has 1700 km2 expanse. There are many water
bird species reported from the area, but the most famous are flocks of migratory
Goose.


4- Kharidoon forest: This area is a unique natural attraction near Sisakht touristic
city in the west mountainside of Dena (Dena protected area) in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer'ahmad
provine. Natural ecosystem is full of accumulated forest from oak trees in south
of our country which attract many people to this area during spring months.


5- Marmisho Lake: West-Azarbaijan province is famous throughout Iran for its old
civilization and rich historical monuments, cultural heritage, splendid nature and
marvelous mountainous lakes. Marmishoo Lake is located in mountain ridge dividing
Iran from Turkey, 45 km from Urumieh city. Trout is the famous fish species of the
lake which absorb attention of nature-lovers to spend their time having picnic and
fishing there.
6- Ghuri'gol Wetland: This wetland is located in 45 km from Tabriz city near the
Tehran-Tabriz highway. This wetland is categorized as a Eutrophic and few springs
and water from melted snow supply it with its water. 132 species of birds are recorded
from the area which consists of about 25% of all Iranian known bird species. About
93% of these species are migratory and 36 species have breeding in this wetland.

7- Poppies of Khojir National Park: This mountainous area in Tehran province has
elevation range of 1300 to 2100 m and Jajrud River passes trough it. For a very
long time –at least from 1931- (maybe one of the oldest protected areas of the world)
this area was protected as a Royal Game Reserve but from 1982 it has been categorized
as a National Park with area of over 99 sq km. Its Rich biodiversity near the Tehran
city has irreplaceable value. Unfortunately because of harvesting Poppy by visitors
in recent year, there are just few areas left to observe this beautiful scene in
this time of year.


8- Rock Thrush: This bird lives in mountainous areas of Iran and is generally a
summer visitor to Iran. By diving in to the rocks this elusive bird tries to hide
from potential threats.

9- Rodent's activity: This is time for high Rodents activity, after months of cold
weather and possible hibernation; they are having more efforts in gathering food
and reproduce rapidly.
10- Egrets's breeding season: April and May are the breeding season of many of Herons
and Egret species throughout wetlands of Iran. Great White Heron and Western Reef
Heron are two of the most common species which breed in Hara Protected Area in Qeshm
Island. By recording the breeding behavior of these species scientists learn more
about the biology of water birds.
