During a conference held on March 2019 in Salalah, Oman, Plan4theLand team introduced five regions of Iran as important marine mammal areas, two of which are shared with Pakistan and Kuwait and the other three were introduced by the following names “Nakhiloo Coastal Waters”, “West Hormozgan Islands” and “Northern Hormoz Islands” all from Iran.

Among five presented regions, Dayyer-Nakhiloo National Park was announced as a marine mammal protected area based on surveys conducted by Plan4theLand organization regarding the identification and estimation of population of marine mammals during the past five years. While other areas were placed on the waiting list in order to be approved after further research and data gathering is conducted in the future. Additionally, “Khoor Mousa” region in khouzestan, Iran, which was presented as a shared region with Kuwait, was also approved as a marine mammal protected area.
