Plan for the land society presented environmental education to clients of ten Shahrvand department stores in the capital in the cooperation with the headquarters of environment of Tehran municipality, the department of Environment of District 6, Shahrvand department store, fruit and vegetable markets and Kahkeshan noor institute on 12 of July 2015, the No plastic day. These trainings in fruit and vegetable markets commenced on 12 of July and continued to 15 July of 2015.

Plan for the land society presented environmental education to clients of ten Shahrvand department stores in the capital in the cooperation with the headquarters of environment of Tehran municipality, the department of Environment of District 6, Shahrvand department store, fruit and vegetable markets and Kahkeshan noor institute on 12 of July 2015, the No plastic day. These trainings in fruit and vegetable markets commenced on 12 of July and continued to 15 July of 2015.

In this program, 80 experts of the Plan for the Land Society attended in shahrvand branches of Hakimiyeh, jalal, Sadeghieh, Bustan, Khaniabad, Shahrerey, Beyhaghi, Behrud, Almas,Iranzamin and 15 fruit and vegetables markets of Be’sat, Shahran, Azadegan, Lavasani, Azadi, Gheybi, Heravi, Bahman, Jalal, Moallem, Tehransar, Piruzi, Sohrevardi, Sadeghiyeh to educate citizens with the purpose of sensitization to plastic consumption.

The purpose of this program was to emphasize the role of individual citizens and create the attitude of changing the consumption pattern and reduce the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic containers in Shahrvand department store and fruit and vegetable markets.

It is the fourth consecutive year that the program was held on the No plastic day by headquarters of environment and sustainable development of Tehran municipality and with the cooperation of Shahrvand department store and fruit and vegetable markets and face to face trainings were taught during this program in Shahrvand department store and fruit and vegetables markets.

Experts and educators’ measures in this program is to present practical solution to reduce plastic waste ( production reduction, separation, reuse, recycle) introducing a variety of reusable bags, providing environmental information to citizens regarding the harmful use of plastic, brochure distribution and collaborating in offering cotton bags of Shahrvand and paper pockets of fruit and vegetable markets. Creating internet campaign on 12 of July with the aim of making public awareness was well received in social networks. Initiatives such as the environmental groups in other cities of Iran (Arak, Shiraz, Rasht, Shahsavar, Orumiyeh,…) along with No plastic day are admirable and valuable.

Running the ceremony by the Department of Environment of district 6 of Tehran municipality in Jalal fruit and vegetable market, attendance and Mr Shaeri, chief of headquarters of the environment lecture, attendance of Shahrvand and markets’ executive managers, Shahrvand’ managers’ interest and clients were the strengths of this program.

According to the executive team of this program, citizen’ attention to donated cotton bags of Shahrvand department store paper pockets which distributed in fruit and vegetable markets and educators’ training have been impressive. In addition, some citizens who were aware of the program on the No plastic day, when visiting the store was holding cotton bags. The level of citizen’ awareness and attention to the No plastic day was estimated more in comparison with previous years due to different social network.

In line with the program, 3292 of Tehran citizens in fruit and vegetable markets and 6112 people during the discussion and face to face training which is done by Plan for The Land ‘ educators got familiar with disadvantages of plastic and also how to reduce plastic waste and using alternatives instead of plastic bags. This program was held in 10 Shahrvand department stores on Sunday, 12 July and in 15 fruit and vegetable markets of the capital and from 12 of July to 15 of July.
